As I work through the final edits of “In the Company of Men,” I’ve been thinking about the role memory plays in storytelling. How do we capture the essence of a moment, a feeling, a conversation that happened years ago?

Writing means mining our own experiences while honouring the truth of those who shaped us. The characters in my novel are real people—men I’ve known and worked alongside. They speak with their own voices, make their own gestures, and grapple with struggles that are both deeply personal and universal.

This dance between memory and truth is what makes storytelling both challenging and deeply rewarding. Each draft brings me closer to honouring these real lives and real moments that shaped my journey.

What memories shape your understanding of the world? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
